Here is St. Croix, an island in the Caribbean that is one of the three U.S. Virgin Islands. Yes, I am still in the United States :-) The other two major islands that make up this territory are St. Thomas (a regular stop on Caribbean cruises) and St. John (which is predominantly a nature reserve donated by Rockefeller).
St. Croix is what I call a “livable” island. It has some tourism including cruise ships (though only 3 or 4 a week in winter) and vacation hotels and condos. It also has an oil refinery, a Rum factory, the University of the Virgin Islands and many government offices which make up the major employers.
Do I actually get any writing done here? Yes, I do. But it is much more fun to be sipping a cocktail on the beach with a good romance book in hand. The only thing missing from this paradise is a few writing friends to share it with :-)

Now this is my idea of paradise!
ReplyDeleteMarie
I can't complain, but I do, especially when I lose electricity because it's raining :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy to see more photos of ur little island...Hope ur doing well and enjoying, although I know ur swamped writing...but that's enjoying, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteToodles from ur writing bud,
Lyndee
You bet writing is enjoyable. I've written 15 pages since I last saw you. It was great hanging out with you at Nationals!
ReplyDeleteTalk about paradise! We just had a dust storm come through Phoenix and the surrounding areas. I swear my car looked like it had been painted in dust. We miss you back at VOS and your quotes at the end of each meeting! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful. Thanks for sharing.:) Do come back and visit us sometime!
ReplyDeleteHi Carol, yes I saw that dust storm. That one was huge. I definitely don't miss those, but I miss you all.
ReplyDeleteKim, I'll be back in April! :-) I'm speaking at Desert Dreams and I think at VOS.
Love your photos. It does look peaceful there. Maybe with good fortune and gentle winds, I'll be able to finagle a visit.
ReplyDeleteWe would love to have you, Christine! Guest room and bath with view of the ocean and your own sliding glass doors onto the veranda are awaiting you :-)
ReplyDeleteWow! Beautiful! For me, I think I'd be too distracted by the ocean and beaches to get any writing done. You have more willpower than I do!
ReplyDeleteHi Sidney. I don't know about that. I think it is because the beach is always right there, there is less a need to be on it every chance you get because every day is another chance. So I can't really take credit for the willpower. Besides, I tend to write from 10:00pm - 2:00am so no real sacrifice ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely place to live! Hubby & I visited St. Thomas a few years ago. You live in a very beautiful part of the world.
ReplyDeleteSeems to me you are living in a piece of heaven. How lucky you are.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Maeve. I love the pace here :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Paisley, it is absolutely gorgeous, but extremely expensive. Luckily, the beach and friends are my favorite past-times when not writing :-)
Alexis, what fun to see it's just as gorgeous as I imagined -- you do great descriptions!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Laurie. And you do wonderful travel logs. I'm really enjoying your New York trip. I'm reading 1 a day. Just finished day 4 :-)
