The Roseway

I am so excited! I went sailing on a tall ship (the Roseway) during my vacation in St. Croix. I’ve never done that before and it was fantastic! Built in 1925 in Essex, Massachusetts, the Roseway is one of the last Grand Banks fishing schooners. After 84 years of service, she is now a registered US National Historic Landmark. And she is beautiful!
I’ve written about sailing ships before and my imagination is pretty good but nothing compares to actually doing it. I loved it all. The wind in the sails and in my face, the ship cutting through the waves, the creaking of the masts. It was absolutely a thrill (and a lot of hard work….I’m glad I wasn’t part of the crew). DH didn’t fare quite as well and I will admit, I never found my “sea legs” (grace and coordination are not my strong suits) but would I do it again? Oh yes! In a New York minute!
I am now home and back to reality but if I close my eyes, I can feel the motion of the ship and the wind in my face and once more, I am sailing the high seas.
     As always, happy reading!

Marie
