Alexis: Today we have Inspirational Romance author Jessica Nelson. She's giving away a copy of The Matchmaker’s Match, so be sure to answer her question for a chance to win!
So Jessica, what was the first romance you ever read?
Jessica: I'm pretty sure it was one of my mom's Skye O'Malley books by Beatrice Small. She had them stacked in a closet and I, being an avid reader, found them. Let's just say that my education was greatly enhanced by her novels. *cough and wink*
Alexis: I get that. For me it was Shanna by Kathleen Woodiwiss. Whoa, I learned a lot. What does your family think of your writing career?
Jessica: I have an amazing family! They have been so supportive and think writing books is very cool. I've heard of other writers being ridiculed or scoffed at for choosing writing but I have been super blessed. Every single person has wished me the best in writing :-)
Alexis: That’s excellent! What was your first writer’s conference?
Jessica: My first conference was the Florida Christian Writer's Conference and it was absolutely amazing. Being around other writers felt like coming home. Plus, I was so excited to pitch my book to an agent. And then I found out it was supposed to be finished first! Whoops. :-) But that agent, Steve Laube, was incredibly kind and gentle and gave me sound advice.
Alexis: We can all use advice now and then. Of all the books you’ve written, which is your favorite character?
Alexis: She sounds like fun. So I just have to ask, because I know so many writers like sweets. What is your favorite treat? Why?
Jessica: I adore anything that combines mint and chocolate or raspberry and chocolate. I think Godiva Dark Chocolate truffles are the BEST!! There is no favorite, really, it just depends on my mood ;-)
Alexis: Jessica, thank you so much for visiting and bringing your gorgeous cover of The
Matchmaker’s Match :-)

About
Jessica:
Jessica
Nelson believes romance happens every day, and thinks the greatest, most intense
romance comes from a God who woos people to himself with passionate tenderness.
When Jessica is not chasing her three beautiful, wild little boys around the
living room, she can be found staring into space as she plots her next story.
Or she might be daydreaming about a raspberry mocha from Starbucks. Or thinking
about what kind of chocolate she should have for dinner that night. She could
be thinking of any number of things, really. One thing is for certain, she is
blessed with a wonderful family and a lovely life.

As a treat, I love either peanut M&Ms, Lindt chocolate with hazelnuts, Hershey's w/ almonds or ice cream... :)
ReplyDeleteOooh, I adore peanut M&Ms! :-)
DeleteOmg Jessica! You'd love Russell Stover chocolate mint and raspberry mint, sugar free. But you can't tell the difference and they both come in the same bag!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, Ronnie! I will definitely have to give them a visit.
DeleteI have this book on Kindle and gave it a five star review, but I'd love to win it for my daughter, who is also a readaholic like me. My favorite treat is any ice cream with four or more words in the title. Right now it's Raspberry dark chocolate truffle. Oh, my.
ReplyDeleteOh Jeanette!! Mmmmm....that sounds heavenly. You and I definitely have to meet up someday!
DeleteGreat interview Jessica! You are an inspirational writer and person ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anon!!!

Mmmm, brownies!
DeleteHi Jessica,
ReplyDeleteI just returned from ACFW and nearly missed your blog here. Love the cover of your book. I saw it at my local grocery and I will post it on your FB page. My favorite snacks are salty - chips, cheetos, popcorn. I've never been a big candy lover. I leave that for my sweet tooth hubby!
That would be awesome, Lyndee! I had no idea it was in a grocery store. :-) Thank you! I like chips too, especially with dip.
DeleteJessica -- I read "The Matchmaker Match" and enjoyed much about it. Forgive me for perhaps missing something but how could Amelia get from Yorkshire to look at a cottage back to near London in one day? As a reader, I don't want to be "stopped" as I read by something I don't understand. This is Regency. Would not the ladies be wearing bonnets rather than hats, soft hanging fabrics falling from beneath their breasts? Not stiff material? The story is good. The characters are good. But details like those I mentioned took me out of the story. Unless I have overlooked something, I am surprised Harlequin did not catch these things. Sincerely, Julia Blaine (who really did like your story.)
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, thank you so much for commenting! I will take into account the issues you mentioned when writing my next book. I'm glad you liked most of the story though. I truly enjoyed those characters and Regency is such an intriguing time in history!
