Actually, that’s a big, fat lie. I am a
major klutz. If there is a way to fall over it or bang into it, no matter how
big or small that IT is, I will find
it. I have sported scrapes on my hands and knees from finding the pavement once
too often and bruises on my hips from bumping into the kitchen table. Yes, I
know it’s there. I see it. Doesn’t stop me from ramming random body parts into
it! And lately, I’ve taken to hitting my head on the freezer door handle after
rummaging through the refrigerator (luckily for me, I have a hard head). Can’t
tell you how many times I’ve fallen over things that aren’t there (and things
that are….my dog loves to make me trip over her! I think she finds it funny!).
My DH says I’m the only woman he knows who can trip
over the lines in the linoleum. (He also tells me that our house is not the Indianapolis 500 when I’m
busy cleaning and nearly run him over….but that’s another story for another
day).
This klutziness of mine is not a new
thing. I’ve had it all my life. My mother, bless her heart, even enrolled me in
ballet classes, hoping I’d gain a little grace, if not put an end to the
clumsiness that plagues me. Needless to say, her little experiment failed
miserably. I’m still a klutz.
Why am I telling you all this? Well, because I’m
working on Book 3 of the MacDermott Brothers saga and my heroine….is a klutz
(did you know that the word klutz
wasn’t coined until 1965, according to dictionary.com so I can’t use that word
in my story, which is set in 1888). Yes,
much like me, she trips over her own two feet! Indeed, when she first meets the
handsome sheriff of Paradise
Falls , she actually falls
out of a stagecoach….right on him (he doesn’t mind though…actually, he rather
enjoyed it)! What’s more, he finds her bouts of clumsiness charming (like my DH….well,
maybe my DH doesn’t find my klutziness charming, but he does get a good chuckle
out of it every now and then…I admit, I do, too! I have a sense of humor…most
times!).
I’m so enjoying writing her scenes!
Have you ever read any stories where the heroine was
a klutz? Did you find it funny?
As
always, happy reading!
Marie
