Reader Interview: Kate

Today I’m interviewing Kate S who is from Oregon, but in a few short months she’ll be emigrating to New Zealand! I’m so jealous!

Lexi: What are you good at?

Kate: I think I'm pretty good at reading, absorbing details and editing. I'm also a pretty good cook when I make the effort. And I like to garden and preserve food. (canning and freezing and drying)  I'm also pretty good at predicting how a plot will go and explaining strange plot twists to my family. And I also can find things in the house that the other residents lose.

Lexi: On that last skill is so needed in my house. If you could name a character in a romance novel, what would you name him or her? Why?

Kate: The first story I tried to write collaboratively in HS, we named our heroine Claire and I've always loved that name. Now even more since the Outlander series.

Lexi: What makes you happy?

Kate: Being around my family and reading.

Lexi: Tell me about your significant other.

Kate: He is amazing and we have been married 25 years and we are not done living or adventuring together! "I'm not even sick of him yet!"  :)

Lexi: LOL. That's wonderful! What’s your favorite dessert?

Kate: Strawberry Rhubarb pie!

Lexi: Oh, I grew up on Rhubarb pie. Yum! What types of romances do you like to read?

Kate: LOTS of kinds!

Lexi: What are you proud of?

Kate: My children.

Lexi: What’s your perfect day look like?

Kate: Sleep in. Coffee then workout. Leisurely breakfast with a book. Work on a project. Lunch with hubby. XO Hike with a friend. Kids come home from school and voluntarily tell me all about it. I listen to NPR and am told that the government has miraculously gotten it's act together, balanced the budget, come up with a fair health plan for all, voted to grant all students who can keep good grades a debt-free college education, strict gun control laws are now nationwide, adults have to prove they can be good parents before they can become parents (like adoptive parents have to), and those who have sense and integrity and the best interests of all are in positions of leadership and service. And all countries of the world have agreed to immediately implement environmental rescuing legislature and enforcement.

Next, someone else decides what we are having for dinner and I cook while listening to an audiobook. Dinner with all the family, full of laughter and shared communication and no whining or complaining. Someone else cleans up, with good cheer and efficiency. Gather the family to watch a show together. Everyone goes to bed earlyish and I stay up reading until I get sleepy and then crawl into bed next to my husband without waking him up (so I don't have to feel guilty because he has a hard time falling back to sleep.)  ;)

Lexi: Aw, you are such a good wife ;-) If you could go on an all expense paid vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?

Kate: India, because my kids want to see where they were born.

Lexi: How many books do you have in your “To Be Read” pile (means you’ve bought them but still need to read)?

Kate: hahaha! I don't know if I can count that high!

Lexi: Yikes! What kind of car do you drive? If you had your choice, would it be that one or a different one?

Kate: We LOVE our leased Nisson Leaf - all electric! And electricity is relatively cheap in Oregon because of hydroelectric power.

Lexi: What’s your favorite holiday? Why?

Kate: Thanksgiving!  Because it is about sharing and gratitude and giving rather than receiving.

Lexi: How old do you think is perfect for a hero?

Kate: 33

Lexi: Do you collect anything? If so, what?

Kate: duh! BOOKS!  ;)

Lexi: LOL. What educational background do you have?

Kate: Masters.

Lexi: What are some of your favorite movies?

Kate:  Lagaan, Princess Bride, Independence Day, Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont

Lexi: Hmm, I need to check out that last one. Okay, time for the quickies. Dark-haired hero or light-haired? Kate: Dark-haired hero
Lexi: Vanilla or chocolate? Kate: Vanilla
Lexi: Beard or no beard? Kate: no beard
Lexi: Rich hero or blue-collar hero? Kate: doesn't matter as long as they are educated and mature and don't have to be Alpha - just devoted and self-assured with a sense of humor!
Lexi: Coffee or tea? Kate: Coffee
Lexi: City or town?Kate: small town
Lexi: Pajamas or naked? Kate: naked

Lexi: Thank you for taking time out of your packing schedule to chat with me, Kate. I hope your move to New Zealand goes beautifully.
