Hello,
gentle readers!
I shouldn’t have done it. Really. But I’m glad I
did. I took myself to Barnes and Noble today. It’s a store that I love, but
generally, try not to visit too often. Why? Because it’s tempting. Way too tempting!
I’m a book lover and have been since as long as I can remember so places like
Barnes and Noble is like catnip to cats for me. It’s incredibly easy to spend
way over the budget I set for myself…so my trips are carefully planned out.
I also find I spend too much time walking up and
down the aisles―oooh, Victoria Alexander has a new one out, but wait, so does
Jennifer Ashley and Tessa Dare and Julia Quinn and…well, you get the picture. And then
picking just one or two becomes…a challenge. I’m sure you understand.
I’m sure you’ve been there. I’ll stand there, in the aisle, mumbling to myself,
looking back and forth between the covers until I make a spectacle of myself,
trying to decide.
But this time was a little different. I had gift
cards! Whoooo-hoooo! I didn’t have to feel guilty about stealing from the
grocery budget to pay for this obsession of mine. And it was good! Oh, my gosh!
So darn good!
Still, I had decisions to make. Big decisions. Difficult
decisions. I, of course, have my favorites authors (those that are pretty much
automatic buys for my Kindle like the authors mentioned above) but, as I
mentioned, this was different. An opportunity to try something new.
So what did I choose? Waistcoats and Weaponry by Gail Carriger. Very definitely something
different for me. It’s Steampunk! I’ve never read Steampunk, but I was
in the aisle (yes, pacing and mumbling to myself) and grinning like the Cheshire Cat while
reading the reviews on the back cover and I just couldn’t resist. They used
words like ‘madcap’ and ‘laugh-out-loud’ and well…I was hooked. Can’t wait to
begin!
Until
next time, remember to spread kindness wherever you go.
Marie
