So let me tell you about my recent
surprise. I was sitting at my desk in my home office, working at the day job.
My DH had gone out earlier to see a friend. I hear my car pull into the
driveway and thought nothing of it, just assumed the DH hadn’t stayed at his friend’s
house for very long (which is unusual in itself….my DH is a talker!). The back
door opens. Again, I’m assuming it’s my DH and I start getting up from my chair
to ask him why he was home so soon….and it’s not my DH, but my son, who came to
see me for my birthday (he said it was a milestone birthday – it is! I turned
60! Yikes! And he couldn’t miss it).
To say I was surprised would be an
understatement. I just stood there for a minute (maybe two or three minutes),
my mouth hanging open, my eyes wide (he said it was the most awesome expression
he ever saw me wear), not registering the fact that my son was standing right
in front of me before he grabbed me in a bear hug and I burst into tears (I am
not a crier by nature, but this? Yeah, couldn’t help myself!)
They were both so proud of themselves
(my son and my DH). They’d kept this surprise a secret for a few months (again
unusual…my DH tells me everything, even things I don’t want to know!)
Needless to say, I had a wonderful
birthday weekend. We didn’t do anything special, just kinda hung out and
visited. And it was perfect! What a wonderful way to start this new decade in
my life!
Remember,
spread kindness wherever you go. Right now, we need that more than ever!
