SUMMER IS HERE!

Hey Howdy!  Okay, I’m posting late today, but better late than never, right? It’s been a really busy month, which I think is how long it’s been since I blogged and, of course, I have nuthin’.  LOL  I know you’re all shocked.

But I did want to stick my head in and say Hi and I hope ya’all are ready for summer!  I think I’m almost ready…although I’m NOT a fan of summer by any stretch of the imagination.  I am the person who hates to be hot, and yet, I live in the Valley of the Hotter Than Hell.  Yeahhhh…there’s a WTF moment for ya!

So, what do you have to do to get ready for summer?

Me?  Well, I’m glad you asked.  I have 3 wild and unruly dogs who are not allowed in the house because they cannot be bothered to behave—under any circumstances.  The last time they were in the house, Riley tore blinds off the kitchen windows and ate an entire rattan chair.

So, my big summer prep tasks revolve around making them comfortable and safe in the heat. To start with, they have a huge, well-shaded dog run with two dog houses for shelter, an enormous tree for shade, and surrounded by honeysuckle for additional shade. In addition, there is large area that houses a structure with tarps across the top for even more shade and an evaporative cooler, as well as a mister system to cool the entire run. And I'm tellin' ya, this is one huge cooler they have. This isn't your small table top variety. This sucker came off the top of a house and comes up to my shoulders. It'll blow your hair back!  So these dogs are very well shaded and cooled, in addition to a large wading pool which they never use because they prefer the misters.

Preparing for the summer at my house begins with prepping the large dog cooler, which I have completed. The pads have been changed, bearings oiled, floor of the cooler is cleaned and sprayed, water pump and feeder lines checked and functioning properly. Cooler is good to go.

I also checked the mister system and retied a few spots where the zip ties had broken away from the fencing since last year. All misters are working well and between the misters and cooler, the dogs were bailing out of the area, searching for a sunny spot to lay in.  LOL

The only thing left to do is swap out the old tarps for new, and that will happen tomorrow morning, just in time for the heat to start creeping up into the nineties. I am right on schedule and happy for that.

I even had the AC guys out this morning to service my AC units and make sure they are ready to face the heat…even though I’ve already been using them a bit here and there.

Don’t judge…I hate to be hot, remember?

Well, how about you? Ready for summer? Ready to bail for cooler climes? Or in a panic about how to get everything done before the temps start to rise?

Well, the one thing we can count on here in the Phoenix area is that the heat is a’ comin’! We have had what feels like the mildest March ever, but that’s all about to change.

The good news…I…am…freaking…ready!

The bad news…I…don’t…wanna…do…it!

Well, that’s my story, hot and hotter, and I’m stickin’ to it. Hang on tight now ‘cuz we’re gonna go real, real fast!

Love ya,

  1. Okay, don't laugh, but I was shoveling snow yesterday. Summer is WAY far away in Cheyenne.

  2. A/C is good to go and I'm in shorts. Of course that could have something to do with the Holiday that hasn't come off yet and my long pants are too tight. I do enjoy the heat until September, then I'm ready for fall.
