Hello, gentle readers! Hope you are all well and staying safe!
Merry Christmas! I hope you get to spend the holiday doing what you want with who you want—visiting with family and friends or just having a quiet day at home.
That’s what the DH and I are doing—spending a quiet day at home, just relaxing and watching movies (and in my case, writing). We won’t be exchanging gifts (we’re at the age where if we need something, we get it…after careful planning and budgeting, of course, because that’s just the way I am).
We didn’t put up the tree this year. The DH is not doing very well with his back issues and frankly, I don’t want him climbing up on a ladder to pull things from the attic. I would do it, but I’m afraid of heights…so I just put out the little ceramic tree with the lights and that’s about it.
When our son was young, we went all out (I was younger then and had more energy and time…not so much now. I seem to be busier than ever though! Not sure how that happened). The entire house was filled with pine cones and garland and the little ceramic village the DH and I painted. The tree, which we all decorated, was up, and lights were strung outside. It was so much fun doing that, but things change—we get older and come to realize that Christmas is more than just decorating. It’s spending time with the ones you love, whether family or friends or both.
I used to go all out on entertaining, too, but again, that has changed and I am content to have it be just the DH and me (the dogs, too, of course). And I am grateful! Every day!
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and the very best in 2025!
Stay well! Stay safe! And remember to spread kindness wherever you go!
Marie
